 DIGITAL ENTERTAINMENT 📹


Hiii, again it's me Sophi and I come to present you the last topic of this week which is Digital Entertainment as it is a topic that is dominating in recent years, I come to explain what it is, examples, how influential it is today and more. 





The combination between devices and content is the basis of digital entertainment, with the aim of satisfying the need for fun. In addition, to occupy people's idle time. Creating at the same time new realities where they find various forms of recreation.



What is Digital Entertainment? 


When we refer to digital entertainment, we are referring to the use of various devices that become a source of pleasure for those who consume them, they are an alternative for recreation during free time that can become a way of escape or evasion of reality.    

In general, the type of devices most used are screens such as TVs, iPads, computers, consoles, cell phones.      

Video games, for example, keep users captivated with strategies such as challenges in which they must pass through different levels of difficulty, dynamics of short-term gratification, for example, receive bonuses, coins, turkeys, weapons, among others.     

This logic of digital entertainment marks a significant difference in terms of the effect caused by the use of recreational screens from those that have other purposes, such as school or work use.  






Transformations in the way we communicate


Evidently, technological advances have transformed the ways of communicating, of accessing information; the digital has also begun to occupy a place in the ways of entertaining, communicating and building knowledge or at least accessing information.

  • Increasingly, parents of children and adolescents have a very close relationship with this type of digital devices in their own lives, they model and share this way as a way of meeting.
  • In some cases we find that the resource of the screen becomes a way to keep the child still, digitally connected, but disconnected from the real world, without us having to take care of him for significant periods of time. 
  • Family dynamics and even the architecture of homes do not allow children to play as they did a few decades ago, when they used to play in the streets.





Why have video games become the most popular digital entertainment today?


Video games have a direct effect on the reward centers of the brain, generating a very impacting stimulation to which we seek to return recurrently.  Virtuality, which is included in the new technologies, is perhaps one of the most attractive possibilities, and our children enjoy it at an increasingly younger age, since it allows them and allows us to do practically everything with a single click. 


 Behind a screen there is no need to wait, everything is there when and where you want it: creation of scenarios and avatars, simulation of races, sounds, movements close to real ones, etc.


Similarly, many games offer interactive possibilities both with the game directly and in encounters with other players online without limits of age or spatial coordinates. Some games enable different modes of relationship in which particular roles or functions are assumed, and which demand a daily presence or interaction from the players, for example, if the child does not play, the gift of the day may expire, the plants may wither or the rewards may be lost. 






How much time should children spend in front of a screen enjoying digital entertainment?


  •   0 - 2 years: No screens.  There is a consensus on this in practically all instances.
  •   2 - 5 years: Between half an hour and an hour a day.
  •   7 - 12 years: one hour with an adult in front of them. Never at mealtimes.
  •  12 - 15 years: One hour and a half.
  •      + 16 years and older: Two hours.  






What are its main characteristics?


  • Requires the use of a mobile device with Internet connection.
  • Depends on technology.
  • It is constantly evolving.
  • It is innovative.
  • It can be accessed at any time and place.






Online gambling


The online casino industry revolutionized the digital entertainment sector, positioning itself as one of the main alternatives for those who enjoy this type of leisure. Today, popular roulette games such as Lightning Roulette and slots dominate the online casino scene and invite new players to experience a classic pastime in a different way. 




Electronic sports


Video games have also evolved as a digital entertainment alternative until the emergence of one of the most successful sectors: eSports. The eSports have taken multiplayer video games to a much more advanced level and, such has been the interest of the audience, that it is one of the industries that gathers more followers.



Audiovisual content


Audiovisual content is another of the digital entertainment alternatives most chosen by the public. This type of pastime offers numerous options to have fun, so the audience can choose between watching series, movies or videos and listening to music or podcasts. Thanks to streaming technology and the Internet, it is possible for users to enjoy any of these entertainments on their devices without having to download anything.








Online gaming trends

In spite of the fact that evaluating a game of this type is very subjective, there are a series of necessary elements such as simplicity of use, that it comes with instructions, or that it has good graphics (all this together with speed), which means that, lately, games developed with Flash or Shockwave (which need a module to work) are very common. 


It is common to find in golf or soccer games the following game system: there are two coordinates that the user stops with the mouse or a key thanks to which he controls the force and curvature of the shot.
